The Fortunates Review

Title: The Fortunates
Author: Skyla Madi

Well firstly I have to say, DO NOT pick this up first thing in the morning while the kids are running about underfoot! By 7% in I was hooked and busily burning the toast for my breakfast LOL

I have been looking forward to this for some time and it most certainly didnt disappoint! Skyla takes us back into this hard, segregated world at a pivotal moment for our heroine.

When I picked up The Unfortunates I thought this was ‘just another’ happy ever after romance book, how wrong was I? To leave us on that cliff and have to wait for this book has been so hard. To go back in at this point was great. You are straight into the thick storyline and emotional termoil. Skyla has a way of drawing you in and really allowing you to seep into the pores of the characters.

If you put coal under pressure you can make diamonds, if anyone would know that it would be a Sario; our resident gem mine owner. We saw the human underneath the Fortunate in Kade in the first book, what happens when he is put under pressure? Does he turn to dust? Charcoal? a Diamond? Can our closet humanitarian survive the loss of his lover or his friend?

What an amazing story and a fabulous link through into the next book, this book has sucked me in, chewed me up and spit me out. I wasn’t cut out for their world, I am too soft! I love the strength and resiliance in the characters, the way they turn to one another in times of need but are still able to stand on their own two feet. I loved seeing how someone can come back from the ashes of their life and move forward, change and become more than they ever thought possible.

This story is full of twists and turns and is gripping from the get go. Once you start you will not be able to put this down! I’m giving myself a break and then I’m going back in for a second read because I’ve got a serious book hangover and I know there are bits that will be so much better second time round.

Definately a 5**** book!
